Description: The 2009 U.S. Virgin Islands quarter, part of the DC and U.S. Territories Quarters Program, highlights the territory's natural beauty with an image of a Tyre Palm tree, a Bananaquit bird (official bird), and Yellow Cedar/Elder (official flower) on a beach. It also features the motto “United in Pride and Hope” and an outline of the three main islands: St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John.

Design Elements: The reverse features a Bananaquit perched near a Tyre Palm tree with a Yellow Cedar flower, representing the natural environment of the islands.

Outline: The design includes a map outline of the three major islands: St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John.

Motto: The inscription "United in Pride and Hope" is included.

Obverse: The standard portrait of George Washington, designed by John Flanagan.

Release: The coin was released in 2009 as the fifth of six, featuring a "P" (Philadelphia) or "S" (San Francisco) mint mark.

Composition: The coin is a cupro-nickel clad, consisting of 8.33% nickel and the balance in copper.

The design was selected from several options and was intended to reflect the "VI Beauty" of the islands, with the final design created by Joseph F. Menna.
