Obverse: Features a dramatic, in-profile representation of the Statue of Liberty.

Reverse: Designed by a U.S. Mint artistic infusion program artist, it depicts a microscope and three levels of magnification of the polio virus.

Inscriptions: The reverse includes "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "POLIO VACCINE," "1953," and "PENNSYLVANIA".

Edge: The edge is incused with the year of issuance (2019), the mint mark (P, D, or S), and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".

The coin was released in Philadelphia (P), Denver (D), and San Francisco (S) mint marks, with special reverse proof versions also produced.
