Description: The 2021 Alabama America the Beautiful Quarter (56th and final in the series) honors the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. Released in January 2021, the reverse features a Tuskegee Airman suiting up, the Moton Field control tower, two P-51 Mustangs, and the inscription "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS".
Design Details:
Subject: Honors the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the U.S. Armed Forces, who trained at Moton Field in Alabama.
Reverse Side: Features a Tuskegee Airman pilot fastening his headgear with a proud expression, with the Moton Field control tower in the background and two P-51 Mustangs flying overhead.
Inscriptions: "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS" (representing the fight against fascism abroad and racial discrimination at home). "TUSKEGEE AIRMEN". "ALABAMA". "2021". "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
Obverse Side: Features the standard 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan.
Designer/Engraver: Designed by Chris Costello and engraved by Phebe Hemphill.
This coin was also released in a 5-ounce silver bullion version, which measures 3 inches in diameter.
